We believe there has never been a more critical time to collectively come together in support of our youth. This past year, COVID has reduced the capacity of youth summer camps, programs, and jobs, as well as contributed to the highest levels of violence on-record for Kansas City’s youth.
In the inaugural summer (2021), three program partners have come together to expand the number of youth employment opportunities, create a shared pipeline of employers and youth, and establish common goals, all leading to greater effectiveness and efficiency.
Hire KC was started in 2014 by former Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Sly James. Today, with the leadership of Mayor Quinton Lucas, Hire KC is the city's youth success platform - acting as the opportunity intermediary helping to align and organize work-based opportunities across the public, private and nonprofit sectors to support youth with equity, and to illuminate career pathways so that all youth can learn and grow into promising futures.
Entrepreneurship KC is an initiative to create the next generation of entrepreneurs by providing scaffolded immersive entrepreneurial experiences to area students. Learning experiences are aligned to students' individual career plans and the goals identified by Kauffman's Real World Learning initiative. Participants earn market value assets, including work placements (internships or projects) and entrepreneurial experiences (starting a business or launching an initiative).
KC Common Good is addressing the root causes of violence to instill hope and ensure a successful future for every individual in the greater Kansas City region. Our mission is to create an environment where all citizens can live safely and have access to real opportunities. As a convener and connector, our vision is to bring together diverse stakeholders to create societal change.
